The Medical Scribe transcribes correspondence and reports as dictated by the healthcare providers, genetic counselors and Practice Management as well as provides other clerical support.

Responsibilities

  • Types medical dictation of discharge summaries, operative reports, referral letters, history and physical, special procedures, follow up clinic notes and other reports from dictating equipment or written draft.
  • Prepares typed departmental reports, presentations, information sheets, and other written materials as directed.
  • Ensures 24 hour turn around time for all transcriptions.
  • Maintains list of patient reports and records needed for forwarding to referring physicians’ correspondence.
  • Mails, e-mails, picks up and delivers dictated reports as indicated.
  • Maintains appropriate files of all correspondence, records, and reports transcribed.
  • Maintains updated files of referring physicians to include addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, misc. numbers and information.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of confidential records and files.
  • Maintains proper operation of transcription equipment.
  • Performs various clerical and reception tasks, as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with and demonstrates a caring attitude toward patients and their families.
  • Treats all patients and their families with dignity and respect.
  • Acts in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual’s religious, ethical, and moral opinions and beliefs.
  • Brings new ideas, positive attitude and lots of energy.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and Company policy.
  • Presents a positive, professional appearance and convey a professional demeanor in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Responsible for following all facility, organization and department precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Completes compliance requirements as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • The ability listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear and concise fashion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent customer service and patient focus.   

 

Education Level: Some college preferred                                                                                               

Experience Years:   2+ years                                                                                

Experience Industry: Healthcare                                                                        

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
