Responsibilities

The Staff Engineer, Digital Workplace is a senior technical engineer responsible for the architecture, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise collaboration and authentication platforms. This role will drive innovation and operational excellence across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Proofpoint email security, ensuring secure, scalable, and usercentric digital experiences.

 

  • Architect and optimize Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Office Apps.
  • Implement and manage Microsoft 365 security features: DLP, sensitivity labels, Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and Defender for Office 365.
  • Lead lifecycle policies, governance frameworks, and compliance configurations across M365 workloads.
  • Provide Tier III support and act as escalation point for complex M365 issues.
  • Design and manage Entra ID (Azure AD) configurations, including Conditional Access,SSO integrations, and lifecycle workflows.
  • Automate onboarding/offboarding and access provisioning using PowerShell, Azure Automation, and identity governance tools.
  • Support privileged access management and enforce Zero Trust principles across the
    enterprise.
  • Administer Proofpoint Email Protection and Encryption services.
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce DKIM, SPF, DMARC, and other email hygiene
    protocols.
  • Implement and fine-tune Microsoft Purview features including DLP, eDiscovery, Information Barriers, and sensitivity labels for data governance and handling.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for Microsoft 365 compliance in support of CMMC, NIST 800-171, DFARS 7012, and Zero Trust adoption.
  • Monitor and respond to email threats, phishing attempts, and policy violations.
  • Partner with Security, Infrastructure, Legal, and Risk teams to align digital workplace solutions with enterprise compliance and security goals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge base development and training
    initiatives.
  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies for digital
    workplace innovation

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related experience.

• 5-7 years of experience in enterprise IT, with expertise in Microsoft 365 and IAM.
• Experience with Proofpoint, Cayosoft, and Microsoft Purview preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills:
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.

 

Software:

• Proficiency in PowerShell Scripting, Automation, and Reporting (Power BI a plus).

• Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert preferred
• Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate preferred
